My husband has an office manager who he hired about 5 months ago. She was 2 or 3 months pregnant at the time and he says he didn't know it. But that is besides the point. Any way, everytime I call she doesn't pass on the message. This past Saturday I was sitting on the side of the road with two 2 year old children and I was having car trouble. I called and my husband was out of his store at the time but the girl said she would have him call as soon as he got in. Well after sitting there for a while, the car cooled down enough for me to make it home and my husband called 4 hours after I had left the message. Today I called and left a message with some one else for him to call me because I had to schedule some Doctors appointments because I just got out of the hospital recently and they found a large tumor. I have to have a bunch of tests done and stuff. Again it was 3 or 4 hours before he called back because he never got the message. What would you do if it was you?

He says he can't fire her for not passing along personal messages.

Well first off before getting too suspicious because sometimes this can cause marital problems to begin with, I would talk to your husband. Let him know exactly how you are feeling. Tell him your frustrations about getting in contact with him when you have an emergency situation on your hands. He deserves to know before you go off the band wagon on him.

Though he may deserve it. Maybe you have already talked to him. I would suggest getting him a cell phone or pager. A way that you know you can leave a message for him and he can check it regularly.

I would definatly open up lines for communication though with him. That seems to be the problem with so many marriages.

I would get my husband a pager or a cell phone. Then, he would have no excuses for waiting so long to call me back. I'm not sure this is all the office help fault. I've worked in offices. Sometimes the boss is just really busy and doesn't want to call home right away.

Are you sure he's not just saying that he's not getting the messages ?? Dont you think if the people in the office were actually taking 4 hrs to give him his messages that he would fire them or at least reprimand them ?? Could be he's just using that as an excuse.

What does your husband say? Does he know fully of her incompetence? I would think there would be some way of confronting her in a professional way to let her know that not giving messages (which is her job) is unacceptable.

Have your husband have a talk with her. I know that evaluations are done every so often in most offices or when needed and perhaps he can bring it up with her.
