Was it static or automatic address assignment? Subnet mask, default gateway, or private IP addresses?

You can configure it anyway you want to. Generally when you get an isp that gives you software it configues the network connection for you.

You can check/change settings by clicking Start/Settings/Network and Dial Up Connections, then right click the connection you are concerned with and select properties. In Properties click once on TCP/IP then click Properties Button and that is where the IP address and Subnet etc are located. The settings need to match what you ISP needs.
