it's for a substance abuse class for adolescent males. So preferably something that will hold their attention.

Leaving Las Vegas with Nicolas Cage and Elisabeth Shue is a perfect example of alcoholism mixed with severe depression! How old are these boys? This movie is rated R!! It is from 1995. It is about a man, who has lost everything! He moves to Las Vegas to literally drink himself to death! It is pretty graphic in a sexual nature; so it probably wouldn't be appropriate for teen boys! Elisabeth Shue's character is a prostitute! Also, When a Man Loves A Woman, with Meg Ryan. That is a cleaner movie!

Due to the age group of the males, I would sway from Leaving Las Vegas. It's about a hooker hanging out with the drunk guy. When a man loves a woman is more informative and includes recovery and a family orientation.

It's much cleaner.

it's only part of it, but Stand by Me is pretty awesome..it's about 4 kids who run away from home to do search for a dead body. one of the characters has an alcoholic father, and there are some dialogue between the boys that discuss it; however, it is not a huge factor in the movie =T.....

when a man loves a woman

this might work for them, because it is the Wife that is messed up w/ alcohol, and the husband is trying his hardest to keep the family together... they may identify with that.

leaving las vegas

i would say this would be for "bad" kids, and maybe older teens, because it is about a prostitute taking care of a drunk guy. there are some pretty graphic sexual themes i'd say, but it could be "jarring" i suppose....=T

Oh My Gosh, you have to show Leaving Las Vegas. Nicholas Cage kills himself from drinking too much. However, there is some nudity and sex. It is a great movie. He drinks all through it and it shows him lose everything because of it. He won an oscar for the role he is so convincing.

Leaving Las Vegas
It has not too much ,but enough sex and storyline whilst graphically showing how the alcoholic suffers and then in the end dies.
( trouble is it's Nicholas Cage and the girl never gives up on him so it is a bit glamourised :IRL he would probably have lost the girl too and ended his days in the gutter, maybe having a stroke and dying alone)
