"Over the past 30 years, the UK government has taken £200 billion in tax from North Sea Oil. Around 90% of the UK’s oil revenues come from the Scottish sector of the Continental Shelf. If it’s not Scotland’s oil, then whose is it?"

The fact is Scotland puts more money into the UK than it takes out.

Keeping that in mind I think it's fairly safe to say that Scotland could be independent if they wanted to be. They would be much better off. It's probably just a matter of getting the timing right more than anything. I imagine it will happen someday. ;-)

I think one day England will claim Scotland, Ireland, North Ireland and Wales altogether. You guys are almost the same right? You speak English with wierd accents only Britons can understand and come from Britain, you love soccer, u're called United Kingdom for a reason right?

So many similarities! Why cant you all merge to form a bigger power since the best army is Scottish? You guys will bag the World Cup for sure if you had Ryan Giggs, Damien Duff, Craig Bellamy, John O'Shea, Shay Givens, Roy and Robbie Keane, Darren Fletcher together with the rest in the England team! Why cant it be the UK team since you have the same monarchy?

It is anglophobic tosspots like you that give the Scots a bad name. Being Northumbrian-born, I have always had a great affinity with Scotland. It's just the tiny minority who take Scottish nationalism to ludicrous extremes. Time you grew up and took up residency in the real world. It is not as if you are oppressed by this government. I wouldn't be surprised if you voted them in, given that many up in Scotland lean more towards the Labour Party.

Well its taken you long enough, Nah I dont really mean that, Scotland is a great country and im sorry our fore fathers did your country wrong, but it wasnt anything to do with me. Why dont you just have a vote on it, im sure if the outcome was to go your own way, most of us English would be happy for you. As long as you would let us visit from time to time. that goes for Wales too, theres no need for any violence.

Frankly couldn't give a sh*t. Jocks are utter losers. The sooner Westminster eject Scottish MPs from Westminster and of course switch off "The Sweaty's" life support machine that is the Scottish Budget that we English tax payers pays to keep the country going - the better

Scotland could not survive a week of independance. The Scots are addicted to high public spending and the welfare state.

They would soon be crying to come back into the UK and would find some way to make out it was the fault of the English.

Do you not realise we are all descendants of each other. Welsh, Scottish, English, Irish. Example. My grandmother on one side of my family is Scottish, my grand father was Irish and on the other side of the family my family is Welsh. But I am born and bred in England. My grandmother from Scotland, her father is English. So basically we are all one family. We are British. You need to chill out. I worked in Scotland for 4 years, in Arbroath, Helensburgh, and Dumfermaline. I love the Jocks, but you always get a knob like you who hates the English. Blames the English for all their woes, stealing the oil etc.. The jocks are always there when you are winning, but as soon as the coat tails aren't looking to rosy - they jump ship. 55 million of us. Hate everyone of us do you? Have you met everyone of us? Stop acting like a prick. You get just as much out of England as we get out of Scotland. We can't even be ruled by English men. Parliment is full of Jocks. The Scottish signed the Union so accept it. But remember there is propably English blood in your family somewhere.

Yes, but don't do it over a cricket game or something like that. Honestly, us Americans can never figure out the rules so we would always wonder how legitimate the new rule was.
