Survive and thrive with flair and grace a tragic event or illness and be naturally beautiful. Be demanding without being controlling, be stylish without being a fashion victim, be witty without being too bitchy. A gay icon must have a unique and awe-inspiring talent, like singing or acting.
A gay icon must suffer a tragic loss and continue to be her authentic self. This is key if gay men are to relate, and celebrate, a true gay icon.
Gay icons that are proven survivors (either alive or dead) with talent and beauty are Cher, Bette Midler, Kylie Minogue, Judy Garland, Liza Minelli, Joan Crawford, Bette Davis, Madonna.
Being a gay icon is not the same as a 'f*g hag'. Paris Hilton is a f*g hag, but NOT a gay icon. She hasn't suffered.

apparently to be on that record of gay icons you both could complete undesirable song, placed on underclothes for celebrity designers and really of admitting you're gay to disclaim it for years till faster or later you're stuck in a lewd act and begrudgingly crawl out of the closet. tremendous record huh?

First you have to be a famous celebrity. Then you need to publicly announce that you're supportive of gay rights, and denounce any and all anti-gay laws.

clear the skeletons in ur closet, do good things publicly to show gays are good guys etc etc. its easy. But do you have the guts?? It's not easy, how cruel the media can be. or society. Good luck!

Look unto Kathy Griffin, Xxon10, Xxon10follower, Supergirl and others of the same ilk and DO NOT seek to emulate them. For they have failed in mine eyes, the eyes of their parents, and the eyes of all who walk here. Seek instead to set yourself above them by your compassion and understanding, by the help that you render unto those that seek support, and by your love for all of mankind. These are my words.
