I currently work at burgerking and I probally won't get Friday 13th but I probally won't get that day off because two out of the four people working in the back including me are off work that day. So we usually have to have 2 people in the back. But I thought about asking this one chick I work with if she can work the back that day but if she says no I was thinking about just quitting..why? Because that day I get to see my girlfriend from like 4pm to 3am and I love being with her because we don't get to see each other that much but if I quit for that reason will it be really bad on my resume for the next job I get? Or what if I made up an excuse like I forgot I had to work or called in sick? Need some opinions here..btw I'm 17 just so you know..

Oh and also since I'm in school and I don't want to work as much as I do now but they made me start closing every night again..I told them before that my dad didn't want me closing but they got me closing again so I just want a job to pay for gas so I was thinking of getting another job with less hours but is it ok to put in a weeks notice ? or does it HAVE to be 2 weeks notice?

burger king is bad on a resume' not matter how you put it, unless you are like owner or something, so I wouldn't worry about that.

Didn't your parents instill any kind of work ethic in you? Can't you see your girlfriend some other time? You should never let a girl get in the way of doing the right thing! Call in sick, if you must...but that's a stupid reason to quit without notice (or to call in sick for that matter).

Response to additional info:

If they're making you close everynight, then give them your notice. I think if you're under 18, your not supposed to work after 10 pm during the week - if so, Burger King is violating child labor laws. You should give 2 weeks notice because it's the right thing to do, but really 1 week is sufficient, especially at Burger King where they can really get anyone else to do the job with no experience - so go ahead and give them notice today and tell them that October 12th will be your last day.

Now you know why companies hate hiring teenagers...there is always something more important than work. With each job you quit, getting rehired is harder and harder... You're almost an adult so start training to be one... get use to it... jobs very often interupt activities... and it's time you learn that you have to do what you have to do...work!

When you have a job, you have to be committed, they have to know that you are reliable, why would you quit, you can, and should make other arrangements to see your girlfriend. You need to think this thing through, decide what is more important to you. Your job or your girlfriend.

if you already asked for the day off, and then call in sick or say you forgot, you'll get fired. you'll get to see your girl some other time, and seriously, you will need some form of job history to get a better job in the future.

Just ask someone on the morning shift to changes shifts for the day so you can get off earlier.

sure it would look bad on a resume...........and jobs are hard to find especially at your age.,,,,you need to set aside times for you and your girlfriend but lying to be with her is not one of them...........especially if you get caught

call in sick or tell them you can't work on that day, don't quit your job just to hangout.
