Almost any of the peek-a-blocks or roll-a-rounds from Fisher Price would be good. My sons love the balls and the blocks. Especially if they make noise. My oldest loved the dump truck and the train. There are a lot more varieties to choose from now. They are from 6 month and up, but they start enjoying the blocks or balls first and build up to the toy. My two year old still plays with the toys.
The LeapFrog Learning drum is good also. I have an older version that doesn't look as tall as the new one out now, so I don't know how it would work for a smaller baby. My youngest loves to hit this drum and my oldest likes it also, but he's repeating the alphabet as he goes. I wished it counted higher than 10, because he's past counting to 10.
Don't buy the LittleTouch LeapPad, whatever you do. This is too advanced for a little baby, even if it says it starts at 6 months. My two year old would rather turn it on and off rather than actually try and read a story.
For my first son's Christmas, I encouraged family to give money for college or to buy books rather than to get overwhelmed with too many toys. They don't need too many things to 'open' on Christmas day.
Toys R Us is good when they've got their sales going. Sometimes you can buy one, get one or buy one and get a discount on many of the popular brands. Otherwise, Target or Wal-mart have many of the toys at reasonable prices.
Good luck!

The biggest thing to do is take lots of pictures!!!! Purchase a few small things like rattles and soft baby books that are visually stimulating -- Then be sure to wrap them in lots of paper and boxes.
All of my kids always loved playing with the boxes and wrap as much as the presents at that age. It makes for great photo op's as well.
This will be a special time for you, more than him, so don't worry too much about anything big, unless it is something like a new crib or something that is a necessity.
I also got each child a special ornment each year for christmas and Baby's first christmas with the date is a special one to keep when he is older and has kids of his own. Each year if you add one special ornament, then someday when he has a family, he will have somthing to put on his first christmas tree away from home.
I also usually got the girls some clothes about this time of year, because they went through growth spurts that happened to time out with the season. Then I would let them unwrap one at a time each day the week before Christmas to help with the not being able to wait, when they get a little older (This is good for2-4 yrs age). Since he is still little - just put any clothes under the tree.
He's so little he will have a blast as long as he has his mommy, family and lots of love!

I would buy him something that he can use for awhile, since most things with infants are used and then grown out of quickly. Try one of the play gyms that transform for infants to older babies. My son has one that he lays under and when he kicks his feet the toys above his head light up, twirl and sing. Then as he grows the above head part clicks into a lower position so he sits and is like a car, the feet part is the gas and the above head toys are now in front of him and are a steering wheel, blinkers, etc.
Anything like that, where it changes to a childs growth, would be good. Otherwise you will spend a bunch of money on stuff he can only use for a month. He wont remember or understand Christmas this year anyways, so you may as well get the best bang for your buck!

This year I would get him things that he needs - clothes, bibs, playpen, etc. He will still be too young to even realize what is going on at Christmas. At that age, it is even difficult to get them to open presents. He may be interested for a few minutes, then get bored and move on to something else. I had this problem with my son. A few new toys are a good idea, but keep in mind that he will not remember this Christmas. You will have much more fun next year!
Congrats and good luck!

Also it is nice to get a 'babys 1st christmas bauble' to put on the tree. Also there is a little blanket you can get with a rubber edge on the corner that they love to chew and it is great for teethin, highly reccomend that, he will love it. Hope this helps you. Have a wonderful christmas with your little boy xx

My son would be basically slightly older than yours at Christmas and that i've got already been thinking concerning to an identical element. My husband and that i desperate that we are actually not likely to circulate overboard on the presents for him this year as he won't understand what's occurring and likewise i'm constructive different kin will ruin him being the 1st grandchild besides. because of the fact he will in all likelihood get stuff that he can use good now from kin, i prefer to get some thing he can use area way in the process the year like a wagon that we can use next summer season whilst he's in simple terms slightly older. That way we don't would desire to purchase it then. Plus summer season stuff would desire to be on clearance good now. different suggestions: Little not common board books A walk/push toy (which he won't use good away yet will earlier you realize it) one among those entertainment toys that play song and so on that they are able to stand at and play. Sled to drag him interior the snow Stacking cups tub toys Balls Musical toys he can bang (mini-piano with some great keys, drums, and so on) wood alphabet stacking blocks And, of course, outfits if there is a few thing particular you're in prefer of. additionally, in case you in simple terms walk by walmart toy section, it will supply you a great style of suggestions of what's presented. have exciting! and revel on your first Christmas with your new kin!

Get him some toys that he can make noise with. My son that is 5 1/2 months old now, loves anything that makes noise. His sister has a key board, and he will crawl over to it, and slap it and laugh. There are lots of baby type toys that you can get for him, there are some called Leap Learning ones, that are little frogs, and they talk and teach them to count, ABC's and that sort of stuff. They are just stuffed frogs but they really like them. Get blocks, and stuff like that.. Start thinking ahead, he will be learning to walk, there are toys that convert into walkers that the baby can push, there are the poohs and stuff that walk on the floor, there are the gymborees that they can lay under and play with, there are lots of things out there.. You can go to TOYS R US, or even Walmart and that sort of stuff, Good luck, and enjoy him, he will grow fast and you will miss him being young.. plus he is just reaching the fun age where you can play with him...

He's too little to hate getting clothes, so take advantage of that now. If he doesn't need anything for the size he is now, get him the next size for later. There are also tons of awesome toys out there ane they're clearly maked for what age they're appropriate. If he's going to be 5 1/2 months a xmas, you can get from birth up to 6 month and up toys. My fave places include Toys R Us, Walmart, Zellers.

They are they happiest with the wrapping paper and boxes, well my two kids were. Get him simply toys but not to many because they grow out of them way to fast. But simple ones that have little buttons so he can push them to make noises. My daughter has always love the ones that have a about 4-5 characters like Pooh Bear or Sesame street that have different buttons to push and they pop up when the buttons are pushed. Can get some teething toys to. are a little play gym that they lay under and have dangly figures and plays music so they can try to reach them.
