Asian releases as far as I can determine are those DVD's released primarily for use in asian markets (far east) as they would have different format than the standard NTSC format for the U.S, and most likely are recorded in the asian language only.

Distributors divide the world into different regions to help them control distribution of products. If you buy an Asian release DVD you need to play it in a DVD player that is configured for that region.

Southeast Asia is Region 3 and China is Region 6,
while North America is Region 1.

Also if the DVD is formatted for PAL TV you won't be able to view it correctly because in North Armerica we use NTSC.

A lot are copy's. They're sold as DVD5. Filmed from the back of the theatre. DVD9 are copied from the master but a lot are missing the extras, hard to watch Passion of the Christ without sub-titles. Some wont play on good players because of the area/zone filter.

they are coded for different regions all over the world playstaion 2 games are the same way
