What would be the answer to reducing the number of homeless people in New York City shelters

1980...the first thing Ronald Reagan did was gut HUD and throw millions of people out of government subsidized housing. I knew families living in their cars in LA in the early 1980's because of Reagan. It has been a pervasive problem in all cities since.

Every big city has homeless people.
I think one way to quit having homeless people in homeless shelters is to quit putting them there, maybe this will teach others to get an education and get a job instead of living on the streets.

It became a real problem when three things occurred.
They stopped calling them Bums and called them homeless.
They emptied out nut houses and "main streamed" them.
They the homeless gained advocates.

Now guess what the answer would be.

Kid memories are not always the same as real today life. Do what you feel you must. Have you ever tried helping out people that are in need? It gives you a nice feeling. Try it out, it could be addictive to you.

Probably after Giuliani left office. The answer to solve the problem, wish I knew, then we could make it happen here in California!
