You have a lot of accounts open with no balances? My some day mother in law was canceling her Macy's account, and I was like. WHY!! Isn't is better to have more open? and she said no because they might see that you can max all those out at any time. I was under the impression it was worse to cancel cards... anybody really know? Luckily enough I have a good credit score, but I don't want it to go down... Thanks guys

I think it is best to have 2 or 3 credit cards with balances on them that you pay off every month. I have a very high score and that is what I do. Good Luck! :)

Your mother in law is wrong!
When you start closing your accounts you are taking available credit away from yourself. Which (on paper) makes you look more maxed out than what you really are. Do not close your accounts.

It could be good or bad. if you leave them open they know you have the chance of maxing them out at any time.

Go with your mom-in-law-to-be. She's absolutely right.
