Is keeping personal collectibles as liquid assets worth It?

My father used to have a collection of old coins and american money dating back to the $1900s, about $300 of it. He sold it to a friend and put the money in the bank. However, he let me keep $50 worth of $2 bills knowing that i had an intrest in it. I am also collecting the new american quarters. My question is ...Are they worth more than face value? If not, will they ever be worth enough to be kept in a personal safe?

Collectibles are an unusual creature. One never knows what will become valuable. Newer coins probably won't become valuable as they make millions of them and so many people collect them.

What you need to do is start looking for old coins & bills that are in mint condition. Buy them for a low price and hold on to them.

Unless you plan on becoming a serious collector....don't spend to much on pieces.....it usually takes along time for collectors to get good returns on their collections. You don't want to tie up all of your cash in somthing that may or may not become worth somthing.

The new quarters will never be worth much. Everyone is collecting them. My wife has rolls. Your $2 bills may be worth something if they are the very old ones. You did not say, but a safe deposit box is a somewhat expensive item, for a few $2.00 bills. Hide them well and remember where you hid them. They are subject of fire loss also. I think the $2,00 silver certificate of 1897 is worth quite a bit of money.

They're not worth more than face. You can get all the $2 bills you want at your bank. Same with the quarters.

Worth nothing more than face value unless you have them in MINT SETS or GOLD PLATED.

$2 bills are everywhere and nothing special, UNLESS you have uncirculated & sealed bills or star notes.

Are these nice to have as liquid??? .... well of course ! ANY cash is considered liquid. AND all cash is nice to have on hand in case of an emergency.
