Would all these shootings at our kid's schools happen if guns weren't wayyy too available for every psycho that passes by?
Why should people ( not supposed to take justice in their own hands remember?) own guns? I always hear " I want to be able to defend my family if attacked", well if guns weren't available whoever attacks you wouldn't have a gun either so how is that a valuable argument?
mmmmm...They wouldn't be able to hunt deer anymore is that what it is?

When our forefathers wrote the Constitution, as someone mentioned the Holy Grail on right and wrong, do you think they thought that every 10 year old could have easy access to a gun to bring to the school show-and-tell?

Because the right to own guns is granted by the Constitution, which libs seem to see as the Holy Grail when it comes time to debate thier agenda.

I used to be in favor of gun control. Once the Patriot Act passed, I began to see why ordinary citizens might need guns to defend themselves and I've changed my position.

There are three things that will have more of an effect on school shootings than gun control. One is within the power of the press. The second in legal control. The last one will cost a lot of money.

1. The press should refuse to ever identify the killer in the school shootings by any but the most general terms. "45 white male died at the scene" or "suspect is in custody". NO NAMES. NO PUBLICITY FOR THE KILLER. That will stop some of the copycat killings.

2. Make it legal for cops to kill anyone holding ANY hostages in a school. No questions asked. No surrender allowed.

3. Install sleepy gas in every school. This will be expensive and will take time to do. Use the existing sprinkler system and have an access panel on a roof where cops can cut in sleepy gas to every classroom and hall. If it doesn't put the gunman out, it will slow him down.

Because gun control is a shoddy, "easy" and government desirable way to deal with the "problem", not a real solution or an approach that really does something for the citizens.

a) A gun owning citizenry, if composed of responsible people is able to defend itself at need. Taking the guns away from them just makes them defenseless, and forces them to rely on police force whose availability in a pinch, response time and efficiency may not be enough to resolve a given situation.

b) Sure, if everybody has guns, crooks and kooks can get them more easily, but even in places where they are regulated, a determined and resourceful person who is set on getting a weapon will get one, and if they really can't get a gun, they'll use something else.. incredible how deadly a bow or slingshot can be, or a baseball bat for that matter.

As the saying goes, when gun owning is made illegal, only the crooks will have guns.

So gun control makes the common man defenceless AND is no real obstacle to violent crime. Gun fans have other issues to raise, but just those two points prove it's a bad idea.

Note, I won't go into the US 2nd amendment, because the gun control issue is worldwide, and I don't have to use that argument to show my point.

We wouldn't have any guns, but the criminals still would have them! You know in your heart they would!! We would all be slaughtered. Maybe if some of the teachers, in the various schools that have been attacked, had guns they could have stopped the shooters before there were so many killings of innocent teens. Obviously, I totally disagree with you. If guns weren't available, it would be only for us - NOT the criminals.

When liquor was against the law a long time ago, that didn't stop many people from obtaining it illegally.

Think about this very carefully.

As for the deer thing many people actually live off the meat.

If a crazy person is hell bent on hurting people it will happen regardless of what "laws" are in place.
After all there is an illegal gun market.
We need to recognise when someone has problems & help them out, instead of taking away our freedoms granted to us by our forefathers.

I am happily surprised that there are so many informed people on this forum. I guess I have the pessimistic view of the world. The second amendment protects your right ot own a firearm. Some of the dictators in black dresses (Supreme Court Justices) have ruled that it does not but they also cannot see private property rights, another birthright of free men.

Please do not remain silent on this issue, I agree we should not be wasting time debating an issue settled by the Founding Fathers but as long as certain politicians want to rule over you like sheep they will attempt to take your guns.

Join the NRA, it will help to defend your freedom and they will provide you with the information you need to keep the politicians on their toes, keep yourself informed and to be able to educate those around you on firearm freedom. Getting my lifetime membership was one of the proudest days in my life.

If guns were controlled or outlawed the criminals would still have guns, leaving ordinary citizens unprotected. You can't say that it is the police's job to protect us, because they are so overwhelmed they are not there to protect anymore, they investigate after the fact, and hopefully arrest the perpetrators. I would rather have my constitutionally guaranteed right to own my own gun, and protect my family and me by myself. There are now states that allow the Right to Carry (actually a number of them), and there is no denying the facts that these states now have LOWER crime rates in them because the criminals do not know who has a gun and who doesn't, it is acting as a deterrent.

It's called Freedom.
It's listed in the Constitution.
These are things you wouldn't understand.

Check out Britain, where guns have been banned for years.
The people don't have guns.
BUT, THE CRIMINALS AND KILLERS DO.
Get some facts.

I love liberals who cry about protecting the Constitution but want to eliminate the second amendment. I won't even bother, just check out the murder statistics in cities and towns that have very strict gun control laws against one that have none. Do you think that the criminals you coddle care about your gun control laws?

Laws are for law-abiding people. Gun laws keep honest people from obtaining guns. Criminals will still be able to get guns, criminals don't care about laws. Crimes involving guns will still occur.
