I have a tattoo that covers the top of my foot and I find from time to time the skin feels tight. All I have to do is put lotion on it and it's fine, but why does it feel like that. Did the artist gouge me? I have other tats and they never feel like that.

The skin is very thin there & one of the reasons why tattoo artists don't like to tattoo there. You probably have a bit of irritation from the tattoo ink. And since the skin is not very thick on the foot it probably dries out faster.

Not to mention you are constantly moving your feet and the bones within them & are probably more concious of any irritation than you would on a fattier body part that is tattooed like a leg or arm.

There is also the possibilitity that you have some scar tissue on your foot from the tattoo (basically a tattoo is a scar with color) & perhaps you are feeling tightness more when your foot swells from normal movement or being on your feet all day.

I have one on the top of my foot also, and it does the same thing sometimes. The artist who did mine has a heavy hand though (I personally prefer it that way)
I think it's because of the delicate skin and the fact that it is a very high rub area. Over time it's likely to need retouching much more than other places.

How old is the Tat??
The foot is a sensitive spot for a Tat. If you notice the little bones that constantly move when you wiggle your toes thats the problem. One that cannot be fixed so get used to it.

I doubt that has anything to do with it; your feet shrink and enlarge several times a day. I have a foot tattoo as well, and have had the same experience you are talking about. I got my 6 years ago and it doesn't really happen that often at all anymore.
