i have recently come into possession with a i760 motorola phone that had nextel on it. can i use that phone for my cingular account, or will i need to but a phone from cingular?

No, Cingular and Nextel handsets use two different network technologies. Cingular uses GSM technology, and Nextel handsets have a proprietary iDEN network technology. I have the same problem - personal phones are on Nextel, work issues me a Cingular phone.

Sorry nope. Cingular uses GSM service while Nextel uses iDEN. It's apple and oranges. The phone are unable to communicate with the different carriers towers.

Why would you want to. Turn the phone into Nextel I'm sure the owner is looking for it.
