Dona nobis pacem is Latin for grant us peace. Because Catholic mass was in Latin for many centuries, much of the vocal music that was composed for masses and other sacred purposes was in Latin. Because many of these pieces draw from the same text that was used in the masses, you'll encounter the same Latin over and over again. For instance, all requiem mass settings include the following: Requiem aeternum dona eis , Domine, et lux perpetua luceat eis (Grant them eternal rest, O Lord, and perpetual light shine upon them)
