There were three pregnant Indian squaws laying on animal hides about to give birth.
The first squaw, who was laying on a buffalo hide, gave birth to a 6 lb., 5 oz. baby boy.
The second, who was laying on a deer hide, gave birth to a 5 lb., 5 oz. baby boy.
The third, who was laying on a hippopotamus hide, gave birth to twin boys totalling 11 lb., 10 oz.
Therefore, we can conclude that the sons of the squaw on the hippopotamus hide equals the sons of the squaws on the other two hides.
I seriously don't get it!

That is a really bad joke. It makes sense if you reword the answer to "the sums of the square on the hypotenuse side equals the sums of the squares on the other two sides"
horrible joke, not even worded well for explaining the Pythagorean theorem

If u look @ it....add the 6 lb. of the 1st squaw & 5 lb. of the 2nd squaw that=11 lbs. Then u want to add the oz. of each, 1st & 2nd squaw, that = 10 oz. which give u the weight of the 3rd squaw lying in the hippo hide...11 lbs., 10 oz... Did I make myself clear enough?

I think that it is a riddle because when it says, "we can conclude that the sons of the squaw on the hippopotamus hide equals the sons on the squaws on the two other hides" and 6lb 5oz+5lb5oz=11lb10oz. :-)

This is the Pythagorean Theorem: In any right triangle, the area of the square whose side is the hypotenuse (the side of the triangle opposite the right angle) is equal to the sum of the areas of the squares on the other two sides. The joke is a lame play on words, changing "sums" to "sons", "square" to "squaw", "hypotenuse" to "hippopotamus". and "sides" to "hides". Ha ha.

It's the size of the animal that they gave birth on. The hippopotamus being the largest, get two baby's. I Think! Not a very funny joke.

It's a pun on a major mathematic theorem,
If you're speaking of a right triangle and you square the measure of each individual side, "the sum of the square of the hypotenuse is equal to the sum of the squares of the other two sides."

It's not a joke, or if it is it's one with a sense of humor like napoleon dynomite, you know what I mean? All it is is that the other two babies equal the weight 11lb., 10 oz. At least I think....maybe it has something to do with the hippo being fat.

They are asking if the first 2 babies born equal the weight of the twins. The answer is yes if you add the first 2 the look at the twins weight.

Well, the first 2 babies are: 6 and 5
6+5=11 (that would be the third pair of babies)
Although I get, I can't find it funny
