break out the destiny, Saosin, Senses Fail, Underoath, Protest the Hero, and From Autumn To Ashes are actually not emo or screamo, they are pop rock, study the version, and All Time Low, Ever street, continually The Sickest young ones, and Sparks The Rescue are actually not pop punk, they are pop rock, there's a distinction between the two. Edit: Slipknot, Marilyn Manson, and Cradle of airborne dirt and dust are actually not emo, screamo, not common rock, acoustic, pop punk, or pop rock. Edit: All Time Low would not have punk roots, they are pop, their roots are pop, and no count if or not there is screaming would not recommend that it could't be pop. Screaming is in simple terms yet another vocal styling, like rapping or opera making a music, a music can nonetheless be pop whilst there is rapping in it. additionally, I meant to declare the suggested screamo artists have been metalcore, metalcore is hardcore with metallic roots.

That sounds been kind of played out, there were a ton of bands that all had a similar sound like Green Day, Screeching Weasel, Vindictives, Blink 182, etc and more and on and on...
Maybe use that sound as a bit of inspiration and try to build something unique off it. I don't think we need another popish 3-chordin' snotty punk band, plenty of that out there already. Same thing with "old-school" NYC hardcore bands, starting a band in 2006 to just sound like Youth of Today really does nothing and offers nothing new to these ears. Been there, done that.

Old punk, real punk was way before the 90s. True punk rock started and ended in 1977.

Give a listen to anything by the Buzzcocks for a dose of old-school punk. If you want to go back even further, try the Ramones or Fugazi.

aHEM! "early" is the *90s*? Offspring??
Dude, if we're talking *early* pop-punk, then we're talking guys like Cheap Trick or even The Kinks.
Google/ Wikipedia them....
EDIT:
The New York Dolls are also WAY before Offspring's time. Now THAT'S early pop-punk.

Bands don't tend to last long, do they? Either they break up or their newer music changes.
For inspiration, sample the music of the 70s and 80s. Lots of harder rock sounds and all kinds of other stuff, too.
The only new stuff I've liked is from a Japanese band called The Pillows.

When someone says punk, I don't think of the Offspring and definitely not of Green Day. Pick up a Sex Pistols album.

Groups like that still exsist. Look at band like Heatmiser, Protest the Hero, The Unicorns and many others. They haven't gone away, the radio stations just don't play them.
