Just wait a few minutes...the suckers on his tentacles will dry out and he will fall down. Then put him back in the tank and get a lock for the lid.

Okay. . . that's a little weird. You could try vaseline or KY or something to keep it from being sticky. I'm guessing it won't be there long since it needs water to live and everything.
