Yes, because Stan Lee and the editors back then weren't smart enough to realize that if Peter Parker could create the web fluid and design and build the web shooters, he could have patented them and made millions. Think of the military and law enforcement applications, for quieting civil unrest and taking prisoners without harming people! If you look in old issues of Marvel Universe (Tool and Gadgets) the web shooters are shown. They had jeweled bearings and micromachined parts, and how did poor, poverty-stricken Peter get the money to make even a prototype...? So they had to close that loophole.

Yes, he did. And though it was sort of cool for him to just have the web shooting power in the movie, the web cartridges have their plus side. He has used them in the comics to get himself out of some bad situations. For instance, he's added different chemicals to the webbing to make the webbing stronger and has made it able to stop the conduction of electricity to fight the Shocker. So though he did run out of the webbing cartridges from time to time. It defiantely had it's plus side.

Yes he originally did have web canisters/ web shooter but in the movie it shows it naturally occuring which isn't right as far as authenticity goes.

Yeah, the original Spiderman had fake web-slingers. It was actually very not-cool. In fact... it sucked. It was probably why he chose to have Peter be such a geek, to explain how he could finish his father's experiments with adhesive stuff... I think the movie did a better job by just saying they came with his mutation.

Originally he did rely on cartridges to provide him with webbing but over the years mutation and enhancements mean that he can now create his web naturally.

Yes it did.
The director of the movies said in an interview it was the one element he changed. Sam Raimi said, if he has all sorts of spiderlike powers, why cant he manufacture his own organic webbing like a real spider.
Otherwise, the movies were pretty accurate.

Yes indeed. Many of the answers are talking about the movie, but i assume (based on previous questions you've asked) you are refering to why he doesn't use it now in comics. Over many years many writers tweaked his powers and abilities, but JMS finalized the changes when he mutated Pete into a giant spider and back again.

God i hate that man (JMS).
