People are mainly influenced by their parent's beliefs. Usually they fall in line with what their parent's believe. But sometimes...if the parents are extreme in their beliefs, the children may rebel and go the opposite way.

Wow, Tom, this is a really good question. Not what I normally would expect out of you. *Smile*
Anyway, to answer your question, I've always been interested in politics. In 1988, during the election between Dukakis and Bush, I wasn't even eight years old...but I was asking my parents about Republicans and Democrats, paying attention to the polls and debates surrounding the election, and generally wanting to know about politics. There is so much I remember from that time, even though my parents tried to sugarcoat some things, like with the Willie Horton thing. The smear campaign against Bush was horrible though.
So, nearly two decades later, and all that's happened is I've become even MORE passionate about politics. I read political books (from both sides of the spectrum, thank you!), books on history, and books on religion (because religion DOES tie into politics, whether we like it or not). I pride myself on being well-informed.
As far as what I'm doing for my side, I try to force both those who agree with me AND those who don't to defend their position.
I debated a Hindu Indian who was twice my age, and he was astounded by my knowledge. That's just what I do. I force people to make themselves better informed....otherwise, I can beat them in debate.
I try to open peoples' eyes and minds. I try to make both conservatives and liberals understand that they need each other. Sometimes I get discouraged when I hear conservatives say "liberals this", and when liberals say "conservatives that"...but that's inevitable, isn't it?
I also try to keep an open mind on my own views. That's why I consider myself to be a moderate.

I think I was born to be a liberal. My parents were both republicans, not extreme, but republicans.I went to a baptist church, christian school. I remember when Clinton, Bush and Perot were running in 92, we had to right an essay on who should be President and why.Every single person in my class, chose Bush, because he was against abortion and religious so they thought he would be a good president.I thought it should be clinton, but I couldnt say that in my school, so I went with ross perot. It was a small school conformatiy was to be expected there. I dont think I could fathom thinking the way conservatives do.I just cant imagine the way their thought process goes. It is mind boggling to me how people blindly follow their elected leaders as if they are demi gods who can do no wrong. I have empathy for everyone and always try to put myself in their situation before making a decision and try to gather as much information about something before deciding.I just couldnt be anything but a liberal.

I don't work for the team. Politics don't influence me. If a Democrat came along that had beliefs more in line with mine than the Republican, I'd vote for him.

I live my life the best I can. I don't bother others, and I expect the same in return. I don't take money from other people's paycheck to pay my bills, and I wish others would stop taking from me. Why should others get a tax break for having kids or buying a house? Those are choices.

I became interested in politics as soon as I got my first job and paycheck. I saw just how much money the government was stealing from me, and the horrible uses they were putting it to.

As I grew up I continued to see the horrors of politicians and government in general. They are all (at least the vast majority) corrupt, power hungry, evil people. I am motivated to take away as much power as possible from them so they can't abuse it. Because it is not a matter of "if" the powerfull will abuse their power, but "when".

The founding fathers understood this and tried to limit the role of government. Sadly, we have gotten away from this philosophy and the government finds new ways to enslave us every day.

I think I have a good understanding of our US Constitution. I'm not sure everybody does (putting it mildly). I guess I think I'm helping to make this world a better place by putting in my 2 cents.

I care alot about where this Country is headed, because I care about our children...
