3/4 - 1/2

common denominator is 4

convert 1/2 to to 2/4 and it's easy form there
=1/4

but it that's a negative -3/4 then it is:

-3 / 4 = -0.75 (or -3/4)

Q: -1.25 (or -5/4)

Change the 1/2 to 2/4. Then -3/4 - 2/4 = -5/4. So q = -5/4

Your common denominator would be 4
q = -3/4 - 2/4= - 5/4 = - 1 1/4

You're dealing with negative numbers. The sum of two negative numbers is another negative numbers. Other than that, it's just like adding.

- 3/4 - 1/2 = 1 1/4

okay, a half (1/2) is the same as two quarters (2/4)

so q = -3/4 - 2/4

minus three minus anouther two is minus five

q = -5/4 or -1 1/4

first, make the denominator the same....so you have to change 1/2 to 2/4....so now it looks like this:

q=-3/4-2/4
which basicall means

q=(-3/4)+(-2/4)

q=-5/4
OR
-1 1/4
