Not sure I understand where you're going with this one...The whole point of hyphenating is so that neither part gets dropped...

It's usually the second part of the name unless you say something to everyone that has to deal with the name. It also depends on how long the names are if they are both short then maybe neither but if they are both long the second one will get dropped.

Are you talking about the last name? My son is in school and his last name is hyphenated and they usually leave out the first part of the last name and it makes his dad so mad. So i hope this helps?

I don't know if you are asking what happens in a "legal" sense when one name gets dropped
but if you mean which name will not get used if I give my kid too many names the answer is the second part will get dropped.
My son is named John Jacob-Jason Jones and he has chosen to call himself John Jacob Jones.

Neither. If a child has a hypenated name, the whole thing is their name, not just a part of it.

well if it is a part of the real name then neither like Jon-benet it is a part of the name.
