can somebody please tell me what the fine is for riding with out a helmet is we are having a family discussion and the kids seem to think it is ok not to wear one

Each state is different. In NJ it is $42, plus the bike can be confiscated.

I think the fine is dependant on where you live. As for your kids arguing the point, law or not, if it is your rule, that is the end of the discussion.

You could always impliment a personal fine of giving chores or owing money even if law enforcement does not catch them.

I know we didn't wear them as kids but I had one heck of a wreck when I was a kid and would have not suffered the week long headache from hitting my head had I wore a helmet.

A sixteen year old girl in my town was riding without her helmet. The fine she got was death, having been caught by a bus.

Depends on the state.
-If assuming for cycles
its not illegal not to wear one, although be it a good idea
- Motorcycles
Depends on state, Heavy fines though, some legal some not
