a dog walks 24steps north and then walks 55steps west to bury a bone. if the dog walks back to the starting point in a straight line, how many steps will the dog take and in which direction will the dog walk?

just make a mental diagram...South East the dog walks back in the straight line....Others have answered the rest....i was too late

This is a triangle, so I think the formula is
A^2 = B^2 + C^2

A^2 = 24^2 + 55^2

So you use the calculator and punch in the numbers, then take the square root to get A. That's it.

Like

A^2 = 3^2 + 4^2
A^2 = 9 + 16
A^2 = 25
A = 5
