Well first of all the first quad core is coming out THIS year from Intel, it will be called the Core 2 Quadro. However it will be about $1000. The cheaper ones from Intel will be out next spring, and the AMD version which I think is the one most of the people here are talking about will also be here next year. I would say that if you have gotten by this long with that system, the Core 2 Duo will be plenty for you so I would just go with that.

Well your first step should be to stop posting the same question multiple times. I'm really getting tired of people doing that.

As for your question, Dual cores aren't even being fully utilized right now. I bet you can't find more than 5 programs that really make full use of them.

If you want to upgrade, get a socket AM2 motherboard. You can either get a great single core processor for under $100 with it or get an Athlon 64 X2 for about $150. Don't wait for Quad core, it will be a long time before they get released. Then it will be another year or two before your find programs that make good use of them.

Faster isn't always better. The computer your running now will do good for Internet surfing and a few other things as well.. The marketing for faster is the big hype these days. Some day they will come up with a P5 or a P6 Then people would want the faster the better. The Key WORD is WANT .VS. NEED I would go with the need more then the want any day just simply for the fact that I am a leader by example and not a follower because some nut job next door has a computer pumped with adrenalin.. Go with your heart on this one!

Bear in mind that when quad core gets released in 2007 its price would be much more than a current dual core (as dual core has been around for some time now). I guess the price of a quad core will normallize in 2008.

Also keep in mind that intel has plans to go up to 80Cores in the next 5 years.

I thought quadra core was still being Manufactured and not even in beta testing yet.

I guess I was wrong. If quadracore is coming out in 07 then just wait. I would even wait a couple of months after it comes out for the price drop. They over price their chips alot.

You are way down on the scale of performance. I would upgrade with some RAM and wait for the 4 core CPU.
Add 512MB to your present setup.

I read the quad will be in development longer than to 07. Go with the Dual and wait for "Vapor-ware".

You will not able to afford quad core. It is going to be expensive and they won't lower it because everybody waiting for it. AMD might sell the quad core for $500 and up which to me is expensive.

All you need to do is enjoy the dual core system and you won't cares another system for several years.

it all depends how much cash you have in your pocket... I'll wait!
192mb is tiny.... think 1gig or more! (I like 2.5 gig)

Watch out for buying memory for the old computer, as it probably won't work in the new one.
