I live in Canada and when i go to a Movie I get in based on the Canadian rating. However when i sit down to watch I also see what it was rated in the states because it is normally shown before the movie starts. And what i have noticed is that almost everything here that is rated PG, PG-13, 14A, and 18A get the rating R. Why?????, I think it has something to do with the states having more religous values involved in everything. What you u ppl think?????

Because America is full of babies whiners and to make sure nobodies feelings get hurt... if it is questionable just slap an R rating so the bible humpers don't get offended

Well, an R-rating is based off language, nudity, sexual content, drug usage, and violence. Not every movie is rated R, mind you. In fact, when Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom was released, it was deemed to violent to be classified as PG. And so, the PG-13 rating was born. However, in the late 1990s, parents were concerned about the movies their children and teenagers were watching. Now, the rating rules are a bit stricter, as the movies that would have been PG-13 [an appeal to teenagers] are now rated R.

There are grave inconsistancies in the organization running the rating system of the U.S. For the most part I, couldn't give a damn, but some people seem to think it influences viewers by limiting the availability to the movie. If I really want to see it I SEE IT and am not influenced by ratings or reviews. There is an independent movie coming out called "THIS FILM IS NOT YET RATED" about this problem and I will probably see it.

Ok, I've never been to Canada and I don't know how they rate the movies there, but I can say that in the USA if a movie is rated R there is no way in hell it is actually a pg or pg 13 in another country. And it has nothing to do with religion, its the fact that people don't think children should be explosed to those images at such a young age.

Well not all the movine in the US are rated R. It has nothing to do with religion. It has to do with censorship and what some stewed prunes in an office thinks is morally acceptable. It seems there is a lot of movies in the R catagory and it really should be better catagorized. I know working in the TV industry I had to constently watch what I said or have to redo the sceen, just because I said a word that seemed more appropriate.

Parents give the movies their ratings-men and women just like you. They are part of a specially designed committee called the film rating board of the Classification and Rating Administration. As a group they view each film and, after a group discussion, vote on its rating, making an educated estimate as to which rating most American parents would consider the most appropriate. An R may be assigned due to, among other things, a film's use of language, theme, violence, sex or its portrayal of drug use.

It is to help sales in the U.S. Everyone will go if it is rated R and they get more people then PG or PG-13. It's like the movie Rainman, no reason for it to be rated R other then because they knew that would get more people to go.

I think everyone's getting so uptight on what's viewed in the movies, that they want it to be if even the F word is said, it's "r" rated. That way more parents are concerned on the actual content in the movie, and actually see it before they advise if it's "okay" for their kid to.

Too many people trying to be politically correct these days. Rating of R probably means that there is something offensive to someone..albeeit, God only knows who...but someone might just get their panties in a bunch if they watch that movie....

We live in a weak society. In Europe, they are more open about sex and other tabboo subjects. Here in the US we are up tight about it. Why do you think stores have pulled Maxim magazine off the shelves yet the sell Cosmo which talks about sex alot mjore and pretty much tears down womens self confidence piece by piece.

If you look at how other countries handle sex and drugs in films and just in general, America is the one country that censors it the most. Look at Europe and how everyone there is so open and honest about drugs and sex...they have a lot less problems there concerning the two; while in America its no sex and no drugs...and we have so many more problems with the two.
