January is cold. You are looking at about 10°-13°C (50°-55°F). Because of the close proximity to the Sea, it feels a lot colder than that though! I suggest if you come you bring long underwear to wear under your normal clothes.
Tunisia doesn't get snow during the winter, we get rain, and it rains almost everyday. But please don't let that distract you! There are still plenty of things to do here even during the winter seasons!
I live in Monastir (Skanes is a subdivision of Monastir) and if you decide to come I could tell you some things that would be enjoyable to do while here on holiday.
Please feel free to contact me if you'd like more information or if you have any more questions.

I was in Skanes last month! In Sept it was mid thirties and really too hot to do much. It should be a lower temperature in January, but not that low. We're still talking low twenties. If you're a sun-worshipper it might be better to go later in the year, but if you're more of an explorer then it will be almost perfect weather. Away from the coast the weather can be up to 10 degrees hotter and the further south you go the closer you get to the sahara. We went to El Djem to see the old roman amphitheatre (about 10 miles inland) and it was 46 degrees. If you choose to go camel riding or on a trek into the desert you NEED cooler weather.
We wanted to go to Tatouine to see the pygmy caves (and the place they shot the Star Wars films!) but the weather was just too darn hot!
There are lots of great hotels in Skanes, but I highly recommend the Houda Golf and Beach resort - just for the sheer amount of stuff you can do and the friendliness of the staff.
Have a great time. It's a brilliant place to visit. I'd go back like a shot, and the hubby and I are actually considering buying a house out there.

Hey. January should be around the 50's... Tunisia is not necessarily cold in winter, especially around Skanes (which is a bit more south) but it is humid in winter, so that could be a problem. Hopefully it won't rain. Suggested visits: Sidi Bou Said, Carthage, the Medina in Tunis center, Dougga (a must for Roman Ruins), Monastir. I'm Tunisian by the way... and just curious to find out where you're from? Ciao. Have a great time over there!

RE:
What will the temperature be like in Tunisia in January?
Its my birthday in January and as I have always wanted to go to Tunisia, my fella said he'd take me as my present. I'm looking at Skanes and want to know if it will be warm.

I spent last Christmas in Tunisia and returned 18th January. In the north and eastern coastal areas, when the sun shines, and 10-20% is about right, it can be warm, but most of the time it's like Britain in November, overcast, rainy and cold. Don't go looking for winter sunshine and spending days on the beach.
On the other hand, Tunisia is a great country, worth visiting the Roman and Carthaginian ruins in Tunis and Bulla Regia. The people are very welcoming but as usual, you have to haggle on prices everywhere and there are many touts in tourist traps. beware of Muhammad, the waiter from your hotel. He's a tout trying to lead you into a shop, and he doesn't work in your hotel. It's a trick to gain your confidence. I always ask them which hotel do they mean and then say "you must have confused us with someone else. Bye bye."
Go there in May. It's beautiful, and very green with superb flowers as well as warm beach days to enjoy.

My mother lives in Tunis. It is indeed a beautiful destination. Skanes should be nice as weel. I does get fairly cool there. Make sure you have a coat. The average would be anywhere between 44 and 50 F...
