You've heard a lot of BS. Freemasonry may be about a lot of things, but cheating on one's wife isn't part of that equation. Not saying that no Mason has ever cheated on his wife, but it's certainly not part of the Masonic code of behavior. The Masons are a charitable fraternal organization, and once your husband joins, you can take part in Masonic "adoptive" organizations like Amaranth and OES (Order of the Eastern Star). And as for dues, pretty much every organization on Earth has them.

Masons are not the partying type they do have rules against things like cheating and so forth. There is a statement in their oath that no mason shall have carnal knowledge of another masons wife, daughter... so on and so forth. Yes the dues are expensive but they do have a paln where they can pay for a life time... he would have to ask his lodge about that.. You have to remember that the masons are an internationally based orginization and they pay dues to the grand lodge and thier own lodge... The money goes to help the up-keep of the building that they meet in.. to help the youth orginizations also such as Job's Daughters , Rainbow for girls and Demolay. Yes they are men and they will sometimes go out to bars, but in order to drink i do belive they have to get a pemit from the grand lodge.. And if he cheats it has nothing what so ever to do with the masons. I hope this helps..

If he petitions a lodge they will meet with you and your husband. This is a requirement if your available. There will be 3 masons to meet your husband and you. You are there to aprove or disaprove also to ask questions. If you don't give a 100% that will reflect the committee to approve or disaprove foe the petition to goto vote.
As far as the secrets we all have them. Familys have secrets your neighbors have secrets etc. Are secrets always to hide bad things or just personal to a family and not open for people to judge? Remember how old the craft is and how it became a secret in the first place. Everything done in a lodge is very close to spot on as when it was founded which includes secrets.
First you must ask him why does he want to join and what does he know. Than when you meet with the masons you must ask what is the teachings core value. I am sure wikipedia could give you some sort of breakdown but prob best to ask at the meeting.

The motto of Freemasonary is to "make good men better". There is no drinking allowed in any Masonic Building. The dues are quite for what you get out of it. There are several different Masonic Organizations for all members of the family.

I personally don't trust any group that you can't know anything about publicly. They are entirely to secretive for me and most secrets are kept for a reason and they usually aren't good. My ex-boss was an eastern star and left her briefcase with her masonic material inside. She lived 20 miles from the job and came back at 11:00 at night for it, because she didn't want anyone to see the contents. Kinda creepy to me.

You want a serious answer? Well, the masons is a fraternal organization. It is built on Christian principles with a lot of philanthropic causes. However, any organization is only the sum of it's members. So....if your husbands lodge is a bunch of womanizing alcoholics, then there you are.

The mason's are a very secret society, he should be very privileged to join. the most thing that happens is memorization. He must keep secrets well.

he's your husband would he cheat on you if he wasn't in a "club" then he's gonna cheat on you if he's in one, it's his choice . . .dues all clubs and organizations have dues to pay it's a matter of affordablity can he afford the dues or will it put a strain on his budget . . . I know several people who are Freemasons and as far as I know they don't cheat on thier wives, they don't give all their money to the organization and they really are good people . . . I'm glad they are my friends.

I am a member of a rather esoteric Order of Freemasonry, which admits both women and men, called American Co-Masonry. I will speak only of what I know since I cannot speak of the masculine only rites. However, I urge you to think for yourself, examine the rumors and put them to your own logic.
First in our Order, since women and men are in Lodge together, any sort of misbehavior would be immediately apparent and brought up for censure. We cannot abide even the least appearance of impropriety. You cannot imagine what scrutiny we place ourselves under in that regard. We are there to make ourselves better, not as a dating club. And yes, the masculine rites sometimes make comments about Co-masonry in that regard thinking that is what we are about. I assure you it is not!
Secondly, dues are minimal. A year's dues in my Lodges is less than I would spend at dinner for my lady and myself. And what I give anytime else to the Lodge is done in secret, between me and God. No one compels anyone to give anything more than the yearly dues (less than a hundred dollars.)
As far as partying? In my Order, we are even careful to serve vegetarian dishes for those who do not eat meat.We do not smoke in other's presence. Alcohol? Not at functions! Pretty tame I think you would find us.
I know that in the masculine only rites there are women's auxilaries called Eastern Star. We do not have them in American Co-Masonry since women participate in all rites with the men. However, if your husband is joining a masculine rite Lodge, I urge you to investigate joining Eastern Star. Look at getting involved in the charitable works they do.
Whatever the Order, Freemasonry is about making good people better. The slander spread is by people who are small minded and those who do not know. Those who take vows of fidelity take those vows (like keeping secrets and trusts) very seriously. Would they be likely to be cheating? Ask yourself that.
