From Svanto-vit, name of a Slavic god worshiped with ecstatic dances on the Baltic island of Rügen, transferred by Christian missionaries to Saint Vitus.
The Italian. form of the name is Guido.

The male proper name is from French.,
related to Italian. Guido, literally. " leader "

Literally a flashily dressed Italian that believes he is in charge. If he was smiling when he said it no problem. If he was scowling and spitting that could indicate a cause for concern.

Guido is a term for a stereotypical young lower class Italian-American male from the Northeastern United States, usually New York. The classic guido is often portrayed as humorously and incorrigibly uncultured, with a macho attitude towards women and an unyielding pride in his Italian ancestry. The term is likely derived from the Italian proper name Guido, and is used and recognized particularly around New York City, Long Island, New Jersey, Philadelphia, Connecticut, Buffalo, Boston, and Providence due to the large Italian-American populations of these regions.

The term has many varied uses, and is sometimes considered derogatory or an ethnic slur, but not to most people living in the above-mentioned areas; it is often used as a term of endearment. Many people will also use the term as an adjective, to describe an article of clothing or a song or car. Often the shortened term "Guid" will be used instead, as in "That jacket is so guid."

The term in recent years been used to describe Italian-American young males from the Northeast, especially in the New York City-metro area (a major center being Staten Island which has a very large concentration of Italian Americans), who are stereotyped as trying to maintain a flashy appearance, by dressing in gold chains, unbuttoned dress shirts, tank tops, puffy North Face jackets, and designer jeans and clothing from labels such as Diesel and Armani Exchange. One of the most common characteristics of a guido is the near-universal "blowout", or "tapeup", hairstyle, consisting of an extreme use of hair gel to attain a very spiked appearance. See the 'Lee Hotti' internet phenomenon.

American popular culture has often shown "Guidos" in such films as Goodfellas, Angie, Risky Business, Summer of Sam, and My Cousin Vinny, and in television series like HBO's The Sopranos, and the best example of modern-day "Guidos", A&E's Growing Up Gotti, whose characters are the role models of many teenage "Guidos". The film Kiss Me, Guido uses the slang term in its title (the "Guido" referred to actually being named Frankie in the movie). Other examples of "Guidos" are portrayed in films like The Godfather, Phone Booth, and Rocky by the main characters.

In Canada, "Gino" is the term used and in many ways is the equivalent (although there are some aesthetic differences). In Australia, the same stereotype is known but no exact term is made other than "wog".

What nationality is he?
Maybe Italian?
Does he wear gold chains and has chest hair showing because he doesn't button up?
Does he remind you or others of a mobster type?
Those are the images that came to my mind when I read the term"Guido".

Guiedo can, and may be construed as an Italian ******. "not a black guy" but someone who is shiftless, non-moral, and gang related.

On the other hand, there are worse names then that you can call an Italian. History states a "Wop" is closer to that defination.

Your father may have been trying to make a joke of it, your BF is probably overreacting.. "unless your father really doesn't like the guy.
