Acer has come a long way in recent years - I wouldn't have touched them 7-8 years ago, but now they actually make pretty good equipment. The reviews are consistently good, and they have become quite popular for the Gaming crowd. If you want specific reviews for the laptop you are buying, check out the user ratings on newegg.com.

I would agree with others here that HP/Compaq and a few other big brands (Toshiba notably) make nice Laptops, however Dell has had some serious quality issues recently - not just the batteries, but design flaws with motherboards - I'd steer clear.

However, I'd be perfectly happy with your Acer - it's what I'm planning on buying shortly, and it's a good brand these days.

i'd not contact them with a barge pole. i have had 2 Acer laptops in the previous and hinges have cracked suitable off both easily one of them. I paintings at a particular electric powered keep and we get about 2 of them again a month with a similar concern. it type of feels to be a large concern with them and Acer in simple terms deny it.

Acer is a so-so brand... I'd stick with companies like Dell, IBM, or Compaq. It's good to know the bigger companies will stand by their products. I've seen quite a few Acers in for repairs...
