As in, religion seems to be people wondering the "why" and then figuring out the "how" [should we proceed from here?]

--> moral philosophy.

What do you think?

That is half of it. The other have is putting those morals into action. Religion is a living philosophy.

Religion IS a moral philosophy. Yet it is adjusted to suit the idealisms of the translator. When the question of "why" pops up there is a standard answer; "Because God said so and that's the way He wants it". When the question of "how" pops up it is because "the Lord works in mysterious ways".

You have to remember that the scriptures were written by the hand of man and are an "interpretation" of God's word.

I think most religions involve some sort of philosophy, but not all philosophies are religious. If we break down the word, phil and soph are greek roots for love and wisdom. It began as a word for a love of wisdom. In our day, philosophies tend to be searches for some kind of truth. natural philosophy evolved into science, a search for the truth of the natural world. Moral philosophy is a search for moral truth. Most religions, however, are satisfied that the truth has been revealed to their prophet, messiah, avatar, etc. There may be searches for deeper meanings of those divinely revealed truths, but questioning that truth is not encouraged.

Philosophy and human morality and reasoning serve for making a greater international, and a greater information of the international. previous human reasoning no longer something is quite seen perfect or incorrect. We human beings have seen many stuff to be unmoral or inhuman as an attempt to grant quite everyone a greater high quality of life. that's fantastically very like we've changed our morality by out time.

Not necessarily, there are many cultures that base their moral philosophy independent of a deity; secondly, many contemporary philosophers have sought an alternate ground for moral philosophy.
However, religion can have some input, but it is not necessarily the case.

i believe don't get me wrong, but i think the bible was written, as a rule book to humanity, and show us how to treat each other, and what not to do. i think religions are wrong, for the simple fact that we don't know which one is right, there are some that are givens to be wrong. my problem is i don't understand why the answer in any religion is the same when you ask a big ?. you must have faith they all say,. but if you think about it, everyone has to have faith in them selves to make it through daily life if we didn't we would sit at home and do nothing. its a cop out because no one knows the answer. if you ask them why they don't have the answer they say that god has not given it to them yet, they say that god will only let you know what he wants you to know when reading the bible. but that's hard to believe, because when you read a book your only going to understand what your mind can process, the more you read it the more you will learn, but that goes with anything, watch a movie , and then watch it again, and again, you will learn more about the story. lol sorry i could go one

i kinda agree with Joxster except the part about god building the churches.. lol

i guess there would be no doubt about religion at all if churches were suddenly appearing over night..

But i do agree that religion seems a little pushy and there is no proof to back it up..

Eh, depends on the religion. Most of it is more tribal identification than moral philosophy.

Moral philosophy, absolutely. Without the lessons of the Bible and the advent of Jesus Christ and His teachings the world would be a dark and treacherous place for every living being. Forever.

religion is a way of controlling the masses. people have a right to believe in what they want, but shouldn't believe everything just because a priest etc says it's true, thus controlling you. if a church etc was really god's house, then why did man have to build it in the first place? god would have built it! religion is a way to brainwash you, and to strike fear into people, so they can be controlled!
