Some people choose to keep their exes last names, however they change the Mrs. to a Ms. That way people don't assume you are married or divorced and there aren't any uncomfortable questions. Good luck :)

You are still Mrs. The label "Ms." doesn't indicate marital status at all, and any grown woman can use that if she wants to. Let's say your name was Mary Taylor, before you married John Smith. You are no longer "Mrs. John Smith" but you are correctly addressed as either "Mrs. Mary Taylor Smith" or "Ms. Mary Taylor Smith", or you could go back to your maiden name of "Miss or Ms. Mary Taylor", if you arrange that as part of your divorce. I hope I haven't confused you any further. Lots of divorced women with kids don't want to stop being called Mrs. because they want people to know they were married, for their kids benefit. On the other hand, if you stop using "MRS" it makes it a lot clearer that you are once again part of the dating pool, so to speak.

I've just asked this question because I'm renewing my passport. I recently got divorced and wanted to keep my name.
I have had my married name now for 13yrs and as the break-up was amicable, (my ex and I are still really good friends) I didn't want to get rid of my name due to having to change driving licence, passports and all those other boring things, plus its familiarity for myself and our children.
I was told that I could still be known as Mrs W so long as the name wasn't kept/used for fraudulent or illegal use. I can keep it if its the only name I use and that it is all that I am known by. Apparently women can be known as what ever they want to be name wise so long as its for legitimate reasons.

not too sure really, i guess you can stay Mrs although thats not legally true if you're divorsed, i think the main one is Ms although some people choose to go back to Miss.
but some people forget and call you Mrs anyway!!

only if you want to be. You can keep your married name or return to your maiden name. My sister in law kept her married name as easier to have same surname as her son but uses Ms and one friend who divorced after six months went back to her maiden name and uses Miss. The decision is yours x

Technically you are a Ms, but why should you conform? You can be whatever you wanna be. My cat is called Mrs Grimsdale and shes a cat.

Technically, Ms.
To tuck tail behind legs to claim singlehood out of a failed commitment to "Love and Honor", drop Ms. Highly recommended for shot gun marriages.
