Sad day for Yankee fans....a good day for the Detroit Tigers...a better day for the Mets if they can actually pull it off and win after nearly 20 years and give the Mets fans a reason to really celebrate that the "other" New York team is having a parade.
but, seeing that I am from Jersey, I would really like to see the Mets against the Yankees. The other half of the country could not give a s-hit, but, that would be sooo great. Fans of the teams that was either beaten by the Yankees or are sick and tired of them having all the spotlight and George Steinbrenner would probably watch it, hoping the Mets would shut them up!

The world would be a much better place.

Yankee fans (well all but one or two) will always be Yankee fans. Just like Mets fans will always be Mets fans. NY baseball fans are extremly loyal.

No, NYC will not implode, it is way too strong of a place for that to happen.

If Detroit parties like it is 1987, then Detroit will implode. It seems everytime a team from Detroit wins anything the city nearly falls off the face of the universe.

If the Tigers beat the Yankees
(and I don't for a second entertain THAT possibility, do I?)
then most of New York will have to root for the Mets
to take out Detroit, IF the Tigers can get that far.

The Tigers win the World Series of 2006, and New York goes nuts.

what if the Tigers get swept by the Royals and loose the lead in the central...what, that happened. jeez Tigers get swept by the Royals and now their talking about taking down the Yanks. I think you need to step back and take a look at how things are going. If they beat the yankees, well then, Torre better start signing baseballs

If Detroit win then they deserve to go on. Yankee fans don't have to be fair weather fans because their team wins all the time. Detroit will probably burn down some buildings.

Us fans would be incredibly disappointed, and hang our heads to cry
but then ~ we would just wait till next October
when the Yankees make the postseason again.
Meantime, I'd still be a Yankee fan,
but I'd be rooting for the Dodgers to win it all.

If Detroit beats the Yankees, . . . . . . . . ugh!
I can't allow myself to finish this sentence right now.

NO but it is highly doubtful the Tigers will beat the Yankees...especially in a 5 game series...
