I'm a Civil Eng. soon to complete the migration process. I'm from Venezuela, and will travel to Melbourne early next year. If you e-mail me, I could give you the name of a friend of mine who's a Civl Engineer living in Melbourne, who migrated from Venezuela a year ago. My e-mail is ljjahn@grupojahn.com

Hey, I answered your last question on how is life in Australia!

Im not a civil engineer, but my father is. If you need anything, email me from the link in my profile. I am probably a little to young to be your friend though - I am only 22 ;D

BTW. If you are seriously looking for work here in Australia, it is probably best you look on websites like seek for employment, and when you get here, look in the more professional newspapers such as The Age and The Australian.

As for tax, you will find that you will probably end up being taxed similar to the following per pay packet (numbers may be a little off though - its along time since I covered tax)

$0-$120 - no tax
$121 - $450 - 0.26 cents in the dollar
$451 - $600 - 0.35 cents in the dollar
$600+ - 0.41 cents in the dollar.

Basically you will be screwed by the government - but again I stress to you that the numbers above mayt be off, I haven't studied tax for about 5 years now.

Assuming your immigration papers go through, you are qualified appropriately with experience and your english is at a good level, you should be looking in the field of about $70K to $90K per financial year, with 1 week anual leave (2 is a bonus) and the usual sick pay packages.

Hope that helps.
