Why are there so many shootings happening in American schools? There has been another one now, is that 3rd or 4th in last week or so? What's gone on over there that people are doing this?

Just want to add that a lot of answers have been about the freedom that Americans have to carry/get hold of guns. That may be so, but why use them in schools? That's my main query, what have the school kids/teachers done?

i would say that the reasons for the shootings, and this doesn't just include the recent ones, columbine especially, is because kids are able to get hold of a gun somewhere and that people can purchase firearms over the counter easily from any gun shop. its terrible i know and america's gun laws are just appalling that they need tightening up. though for shootings to take place at school is frightening in itself. i cannot imagine what its like for an american parent, sending their child or children to school, just so they can get a decent education and to learn- only to experience something as tragic and awful as a shooting.
i have not got a clue what's going on in the minds of those sickos, who feel they have to kill kids and teachers- but they sure as hell are evil and mentally screwed up in their heads, as well as need locking up and get thrown in jail

The bad guys prefer unarmed victims!!.
When seconds matter calling 911 and asking the bad guy to wait is not a viable option.
Better to have a gun and not need it than to need it and not have it!!!
**Police do not protect you from crime, they usually just investigate the crime after it happens.**
So you are against the private ownerships of gun! Do you believe in fire extinguishers? Why, you can always call the fire department!!

Simply due to the gun laws, and the over exposure of media. When you're in a country that it's ok to own a gun, and the massive pressures to be successful in life. The pressure can take it's toll.
Also not just americans but world society seem to shun out the sociopaths and the 'different', it's unfortunate but human nature is all about trying to fit in. If you're unable to fit in and have difficulty accepting that, hate, anger and wrath is all you got. It's only a few that are willing to take it to extremes. Why not go out with a bang and make a name of yourself in the mean time. It's the media, security, society and laws at fault.

That's what happens when they put in there constitution, The right of an individual to carry weapons. Or something like that.

Of course they would carry weapons! Absolutely right. But most of these killings are done by non criminal Americans who have the right to carry guns!

I think the main reason is that American parents are so "busy" working and attending social functions and doing things OTHER than with their children, and they're relying on video games and television as a babysitter. They're not spending enough time with their children and raising them properly.

It is the fourth, if you include Canada. I am truly afraid for our youth. The way that the country is going, we will have to put guards at the door and a metal detector. I weep for those people who have been either directly or indirectly affected. And to those who don't care...get a life!!! How dare you not care!! Its people like you that take out your fellow humans. Shootings and upset people have always been a part of our world...with the advent of the internet you are now privy to all the atrocities that are happening world wide. All those jokes about people going postal don't seem that funny anymore......for the person above that blames America and it's freedoms....land of the free and the home of the brave....go Fuk yourself.....also for the guy below me who thinks it's because of the right to bear arms...get a clue idiot....criminals would carry weapons whether they had the right or not....they are criminals.....they live outside the law...get it?

The sad truth is that in America, people have very little respect for eachother, and that includes children. That same lack of respect is often what leads to bullying, hazing, and harrassment. And sometimes, those who are pushed, push back.

reminds me of a poem i wrote a long time ago. back when they had that shooting at columbine:
i watch the news and all the school shootings
i think of their parents and all THEIR wrong doings
kids walking around with guns and knives
husbands getting drunk and beating their wives
should we be surprised by all this crime and hate
for this world to get better how long must we wait?

I really don't know. I have this sudden urge to pop over to my state sanctioned friendly neighbourhood store and get that state sanctioned shiny carbine with the free box of bullets.
