My 10-year-old sister got her ears pierced last week, and now my parents are making fun of my for not getting mine done. I've wanted pierced ears for awhile now, i'm just scared to death of needles (or any sharp, pointy object). Exactly how much does it hurt?

I highly suggest you get it done by a professional piercer, and not a boutique (to make a long explanation short, piercing guns used by boutiques run the risk of damaging your ear lobes, and are unable to be properly sterilized... single use disposable needles or needles cleaned in an autoclave are best)

First you will feel a gentle pressure as the piercer lines up the needle on your ear (about the same pressure used to take your pulse on your wrist). Then you will feel a small pinch (take a very sharp pencil, and drop the point of it on the fleshy part of your finger [not a knuckle! that hurts too much!] from about two or three inches up). Then a slightly larger pressure as the earring passes through your ear lobe (like someone grabbing your hand to excitedly take you somewhere). After that, you'll feel a little fiddling with your ear, as the butterfly clip is placed on the back, and then you're done. ^_^

It really doesn't hurt much at all, and the pain is gone by the time you realize your ear is now pierced.

Wow, I feel like you went through the same thing I went through. My sister who is two year younger than me got her ears pierced but I was too afriad to me mine done because I was afraid of the pain. My parents laughed at me a little but they were supportive! However, when I turned 13 my mom took me and I got them pierced (I had decided I was finally ready and I was just gonna do it)- it wasn't bad at all. They pierce your ears with a gun and it lasts about half a second and it's a little pinch. After I was laughing at myself for waiting so long - but it was just something that I had to wait until I was ready to do! Once I got them pierced me and my mom shopped through the mall after ( I got them done at a Claires store). Go for it when your ready! Don't let your parents bother you. You are not the only one who is nervous about it. -As a matter of fact, I saw an episode of Oprah a year ago where she got her ears pierced for the first time on TV (and mind you she is like 50 years old) and she was scared to death. It took an hour for her to actually do it! So you are definately not alone. Good luck!!!

If you've ever pinched your finger, like in a door or window...that pain, but REALLY quickly over.

However, don't let your parents pressure you into it.

Pierced ears aren't for everyone, and I'm sorry that they are now making fun of you for it.

Honey the pain is relative to your desire to have pierced ears. Honestly the pain what little there is only last for a second.

Be yourself and do it when you are ready to do it.

It goes quick enough (to me anyway). It felt like a mosquito sting and then just was warm.

Not at all. It's virtually painless.
