A local group fighting for immigrant rights is calling for a boycott of two nationally known companies. Dunkin Donuts and Applebee's are accused of discriminating against immigrant workers whose names don't match their social security numbers.

This is sad.Follow the law and be boycotted. I would be willing to bet that it is the liberals complaining.

I haven't been on this site very long but have never seen a thread where everyone agreed. It is good to see this.

Granted here are some of the toughest times for immigrant workers in the US. But it seems to me (and I am not immigration law expert, but if a person's name does not match their SS# that is a potential abuse of the Tax system and everything else that is based on the SS#. People with miss matched SS#s could abuse that fact easily. If companies catch that and dont report it, they could be fined I am sure.

The other hand it could be that their is some prejudiceness against immigrants. I can not say, but the fact that they would not hire a person without a correct SS# does not mean that they are prejudice. Those big companies are very concious of being ripped off (maybe too much so.), but all things a side, it would be just good practice to not have employees that have something as basic as a SS# that is properly functioning. Remember they have thousands of employees if they start admitting just any warm body under their emply then they could stack up a lot of fines if the Federal government wants to crack down on such a thing. That has happened before, and it does make big companies a little paranoid trust me I know.

Taxes is what makes our (any) government work. If there are 8 million poorly documented citizens out there (if they have a SS# they are a citizen right?) not paying their taxes and this could be rectified easily then they should do it. That could be 4 to 20 billion dollars not accounted for!

No I think that it is too bad that they are being singled out for this boycott. The real problem is getting those people in to fix their SS#. Civil rights groups are important but they can go over board at times.

Pray that level heads and fair hearts rule the day for this issue!

Chicago Workers' Collaborative. Doesn't it sound an awful lot like the People's Worker Party or the People's Republic of Red China. I get very suspicious as soon as they include Workers or People in their name. It usually has nothing to do with either. I can tell you I have been to Applebee's and have yet to see a day labor eating there so their boycott is for press attention only. How anyone can defend no match social security numbers is incredible. They use stolen cards, share cards or simply make up the numbers. A US citizen can get a card number at no cost in a matter of hours, so these are not poor Americans, they are illegals and need to get their Collaborative Workers' asses out of here.

I don't agree with the boycotts of Dunkin' Donuts and Applebees and I am a liberal. I think employers should require documentation. They are the ones who have created the demand for the illegal aliens. And the government has been complicit because it hasn't enforced laws against hiring undocumented aliens. It's a supply and demand thing you know. Enforcement of hiring laws should be tried before we spend billions building an ineffective fence.

All I know is, as a Chicago resident I am extremely frustrated that I have been out of work for 2 years, and I see 100s of thousands of immigrant workers doing jobs that I would not get hired to do.

It's the libs alright. I will now try to eat more from these places- and probably end up getting fat in the process. Maybe I'll just send them a letter or email in their support. Good for them for catching these sneaky identity theft weasels!!!

Have a great day!!!

I think I'm going to frequent those businesses even more now. Name doesn't match the SSN? Call the cops. ID theft in progress.
