Well, by "sooner", I think people are referring to the labor process, rather than how far into your pregnancy you are. If the former, then YES! YES! YES! Don't waste any time getting to the hospital! With my second baby (eight years after the first), my labor progressed so quickly, the doctor almost didn't get there in time! My baby was born three hours after I arrived at the hospital. Also, ask for the epidural ASAP! I found that the quicker I dilated, the more painful it was -- much more so than the first.
I don't mean to scare you or anything -- just to let you know ahead of time what to expect, and to be prepared. Of course, just because second babies generally come more quickly, doesn't necessarily yours will. It's not an exact science.
Good luck!

Not necessarily. My 1st one was 39 weeks with 4 hours of labor.
My second was 40 weeks with 2 hours of labor. And my third was 40 1/2 weeks and 17 hours of labor.

There is no "normal" about having babies. Each pregnancy is different. If you have a tendancy to deliver prematurely, then that's different, but 38 weeks is not premature.

No. Both of mine were 1 week late. Every pregnancy is different. There is no way to predict.
