its more of a hit and try choice when it comes to DSL broadband quality and speed. as the further you live away from the exchange the further the phone line quality detoriates. as per customer svcs, it largely varies from company to company, as every one seems to have their own quality standards, which they have "ALWAYS" passed with flying colors.
I personally have a big home with loads of shared internet connections. I have been using Telewest for over 2 years now, Broadband Elite with 10Mbps connection, worth every penny, shall I say.
Used Bulldog, thank god they sold out and are out of business now [PIPEX is the company who bought them].
Check out this link for most relevant comparisons of DSL/Cable Broadband connections in UK ever. Updated very very very often. :) Good luck.

We were the same. Once upon a time started with AOL on dial up. Then to BT Broadband as they were the only ones who'd supply us (too far from an exchange - apparently). I rang them recently in view of all the other offers about. They offered a discount so now we're on £19.99 each month. Had to agree to a new 12 month contract. We're promised an upgrade on speed (1mb now) as soon as it's available..

I would suggest that it is a case of "better the devil you know". You did not say which option you are paying for with BT; we are on option 1 after being on the more expensive option 3 and pay approx £14. I have no complaints and after hearing some sad stories from friends who have tried other providers intend to stay where I am.

In concept, Virgin Media has the quickest available broadband. In practice, as you're interior 2 miles of an replace, choose for the optimal marketed velocity. Orange domicile broadband is surprising whilst it extremely works, yet their client help sucks; BT is all-around nicely-known; O2 domicile seems particularly ok; those are the only ones i know of.

We tried AOL and were repeatedly cut off mid-session, Tiscali were also unreliable and Talk Talk has a bad custome service reputation.
We have had Tesco Broadband for almost a year now and have had no problems!

i have had BT & AOL in the past but in order so save myself some £ i changed to talktalk, i can honestly say I can not see any difference between all 3 other than talktalk doesnt charge me a penny. it took a while to get me connected but it seems the probs they had are resolved now, conection times are a lot quicker now. it was worth the wait tho. my phone calls are all free too (apart from mobiles etc). well worth thinking about

We use virgin.net I think its £14.99 for 1mg but the reason we signed is no contract (you still get a free modem I think tho - we did) I like the idea if something better comes along or im not happy then im not tied up for a year etc. We havent had any problems in the year we have used them. (touch wood!)

If you have comcast in your area, try them! Right now they are giving you 12 months of broadband service for $24.95. They are COMCASTIC...and not just because the commercial says so!

BT are supposed to be quite good (my sis says) BUT customer support by phone is rubbish. You could try one of the smaller UK ones. I am with UKOnline...support is (currently) in the UK.
