I think they are just like Americans...living at the mercy of their government with little or no individual control over it. Growing up and working for a long time in LA I have met many Iranians over the years. In general they are educated and very intelligent. When you look at people as individuals you will see we are all very much the same...groping our way through life wondering what it all means and worrying about what will happen in the end.

I know several people who are from Iran and came to the USA and they were not religious extremists. They fled when the embassy was overrun. They are a very nice family and they even have taken on a couple of American traditions such as Christmas. They did this so their children could feel like the belonged to the society.
However I watched a special on Iran on the history channel last night. The current beef we have with Iran is with the government and not the people. This is a society that after Friday prayers still chant's "Death to America" primarily because the religious leaders blame all of society's problems on the USA. This is fairly scary because they are trying to build an atomic bomb. Guess where that is going to be used? Either in Israel or in the USA.
I believe that we need to stop the next Iranian Hitler from getting this technology before the whole world is sorry. The world was sorry when they didn't stop Hitler before they had a chance and them WW2 broke out.

I've read that 70% of the population is under the age of 30 and that they are a bit rebellious and don't adhere to all the strict Muslim codes and prohibitions. It's still a theoracy, and many people are undoubtedly what we would call Islamic extremists, but others are more tolerant. There are a large number of educated people and they crave consumer goods and more trade with other countries.

The government is beyond evil. The people arn't too bad at all. Even they don't like their own government. Definitely a poor country.
