because there is one point in the theory of evolution that is completely incompatible with religion.

darwin states that the whole process is self regulating, that there is no need for a superior power to guide it.

in other words, darwins evolution explains our existance WITHOUT the need of any kind of god.
now many people are desperately in need of their religion, for varios reasons, many of which i cannot comprehend... and if they have to choose, they choose religion over science, belief over knowledge, faith over truth.

that said, no serious scientist would EVER claim to be in the possession of ANY kind of absolute truth. which on the other hand believers cannot comprehend, and it confuses them to see someone not not WANTING ultimate truth.
but i start ranting again, so i should stop here.

stay curious!

Because they have an extremely simplistic view of the Bible. It cannot be true unless it is true in a *literal* sense. If Genesis says that God made the universe in 6 days, then it must have been 6 literal days (even though the whole concept of what a "day" is has no meaning until the sun and earth both exist). If Genesis says that every man, woman, and child on the planet is a descendant of Noah, who lived about 4,000 years ago, then that must be literally true. If all scientists say otherwise ... if they insist that the earth is 4.6 *billion* years old ... then all scientists must be liars, or frauds, or idiots, or just wrong. The more the scientists point to mountains of evidence, the more the believers must repeat as a mantra "there is no evidence ... there is no evidence."

And then the religious leaders must employ little snippets of bad science ... just enough phrases like "macroevolution", "thermodynamics", and "irreducible complexity" ... and it doesn't matter one bit whether there these terms are used correctly or whether actual scientists would agree with them .. as long as it leaves the scientifically illiterate just a tiny bit more confused, they have achieved their purpose.

They have been failed by religious leaders who treat them like 4-year-olds. These leaders miss the point that the real truths, the *important* truths, of the Bible, are not in literal facts, but in the *meanings* of the words. That Genesis is a lesson about our relationship to God, to nature, and to the universe ... Genesis should *not* be treated as a biology text book.

It is a terrible disservice these leaders are doing to people. Because it forces people into a crisis of faith, where they must choose *between* faith and reason, rather than being able to embrace both. The very leaders whose job it is to equip people with deep knowledge about the mysterious and powerful nature of faith, instead misuse faith to question the results of science and reason. As a result, we have people who either reject reason, or reject faith ... which is not only tragic for the individual, but a wedge right down the middle of American society.

And as such, these religious leaders are just ... terrible leaders.

Because they have been swayed by the religious right into believing that the creation story is the only way that the world began. However, what they don't realize is that, even if God (sorry for offending anyone for using His name) did create the heavens and earth, evolution has taken place since the world began. It has had to because all things evolve and adapt. The world can not be explained without science and evolution.

Why do some people say it does exist? It has never been proven.

Because they have been brainwashed by religion and use it as a crutch in believing they will go somewhere better after they die.

because there's no natural proof of it...

all the proof is circumstancial, and not hard evidence

this is what I've gotten from my religious friend, I believe in it.

Still though, they're on the same boat when it comes to proof
