Deer Valley area has decent schools and a pretty decent central area. Most of the areas that are comparable are going to be more on the outskirts of Metro Phoenix, which means unless you find a job or start a business near your home you will spend hours commuting each day in horrible traffic because Phoenix freeways are pathetic and there is no public transit worth speaking of. Scottsdale is somewhat central and excellent schools but can be hard to find something affordable there. (What is your price range?) Ahwatukee (Kyrene district) is also top rated schools but again probably not going to find anything under $500K in the area, some basic older ranch houses come up for around $300K but they will only be about 1100-1300 sf. The 16th St & Greenway area is good too, I have a friend around there that really likes the schools and area. Note that Arizona has an open enrollment policy so you do not Have to attend the school that is assigned to your residential district. You can put your daughter on a list to attend any school in the state and if there is space available (not taken by in district students) she will get in. You will have to drive her every day though.

Stay away from anything west of 19th Avenue and South of Camelback. There are lots of new subdivisions being pushed down in South Phoenix / Laveen area but this has always been one of the worst areas of Phoenix and building nice homes there only gives the sleaze better places to break into.

it really depends on what you like to be honest. Arizona has a lot of unique towns that each have their own flavor. I would suggest if you are looking for somewhere in a good price range with decent housing look into the glendale area. I would say though to be careful and visit each area you consider and maybe speak to the police to find out the crime rates etc.

All areas have their ups and downs but some are a bit more dangerous than others.

It really depends on what sort of life style you are seeking. If you want the big city, then the 'Valley' is where you want to be. I have always preferred the East valley...Mesa, Tempe, etc., but the west side is nice also. If you want more of a small town flavor, then you should look outside the 'Valley'. Check out Prescott, Wickenburg, Payson or Flagstaff. All in all, Arizona has a lot to offer. No matter where you finally opt to settle in, I am certain you will love our beautiful state.

I've done a lot of school research on the westside. I recommend Peoria School District or Deer Valley School District. We personally moved to the Peoria School District and we're just over the Glendale/Peoria border on the Glendale side.

The Arcadia area is super nice! If you can afford it, a lot of the business around the area are local, so if you open your restaurant your almost guaranteed to succeed! Plus, most of the people who live there are doctors or lawyers. Arcadia HS is one of the best in terms of education.

Flagstaff. It's quiet, economically active and temperate. Plus, education, from what I've seen, is very important to the people there. Phoenix, or anywhere in the Valley, is not a place I would raise my kids.
