Probably because your attitude reflected it prior to the quitting. I know when I left my last job, I and the boss were butting heads big time. I was in the right but my attitude wasn't great.

Body language, perhaps they realized your were unhappy, did you get another job? If so, then it would be obvious sign of your resignation.

Probably, you confided in a friend that you could only take so much more and if things didn't change, you would just quit after you got your paycheck.
