I went through a divorce in May 2006. I still haven't received my divorce papers and all actions were supposed to be completed by October 1st. I still haven't received my divorce papers, so I can't take any legal actions because I don't have any proof. Should I contact the judge that tried the case to see if he can get the lawyers involved to finish this? Would it help?

Contacting the judge will not do you much good. You will have to work through your lawyer in order to get a copy of the papers. If the attorney is not performing as required, you can always file a complaint with your state bar association. Another remedy may be to go to the city or county records department and ask for a copy of your divorce. This is assuming that it has been signed by the judge and filed.

The judge will not answer as he is forbidden by ethical procedures from getting personally involved. You would have better luck contacting the clerk of courts who can follow up on your inquirey. Why hasn't your lawyer handled this in a timely fashion? Perhaps he should get the axe!

Good luck and have a great day!!!

contact court recording office for a copy in person....they should be able to provide you with this information if it is recorded and since it has been 5 months now, it should be recorded...if it is not then you may not be divorced and you need to contact your attorney

go to the District Clerk's office and request a certified copy. You do not get the document sent to you. It is up to you to go and pick it up!
