Ok, this is really gross but lately I've been drinking a lot more tap water, rather than anything else. In this time I've developed some horrible gas and a lot of problems with my bowel movements. I didn't think there could be a connection, so I changed my diet. I gave up dairy and followed a plan that was supposed to help with IBS, but it didn't make a difference. My doctor put me on nexium a year ago, but I haven't been good about taking it because I sometimes forget and it's really expensive. So I began taking the prescription regularly and that didn't have much of an effect. I tried GasX and other over the counter stuff but it hasn't gone away.
My bf is healthy & has never had stomach problems. That is until he started staying at my home. We eat completely different foods, and have active lifestyles. yet as he started spending more time here, he began developing the same symptoms. He drinks a lot of tap water as well, and has never had problems with IBS.
Any ideas what it is

Your tap water certainly sounds suspect. I would take a sample to your county health department and have it tested. You can also buy an inline filtering system like PUR to help cleanse the water coming from your tap, I think BRITA also makes one.
