And, yes, there is a BIG difference.
If you are assertive, you make yourself heard in a non-confrontational manner.
If you are passively agressive, you keep what you really want to say inside and let it out in a, sometimes, angry manner.
For instance:
I don't like the lady stepping in front of me in line.
SIT 1: I ask her assertively to go to the back.
SIT 2: I key her car later in the parking lot.
