You can't rush these things. He will not respond to "cheering up" etc. All you can probably do is:
- Be there for him when he needs to talk (When HE needs to talk Don't try and push it)
- Spend time with him, watch a movie
- Make sure he knows he is loved by you and any family you have.
Doing this will make him realise that his life is made up of many important facets, not just with his girlfriend. Soon enough he'll realise that, if one area of his life has collapsed, ie girlfriend, he can rely on other areas family etc. Which will always be there for him when he needs them, and love him unconditionally.

Isn't much you can do. It just requires time. You might try getting him involved in family projects. Don't push. He'll be himself again eventually.
Little life history as an example: I had a beautiful girl break up with me at my 17th birthday party. I was absolutely gone for this girl! More so than with any of the girls I'd dated before her. I was devastated and moped around for months. Then one day a friend asked me to help him out as he had a date with this girl from another town IF he could get a date for her friend. uggg I thought!
He was my best friend, so I made ready to be the sacrifice.
Turned out to be a great girl and I forgot (almost, you never completely forget) about the one who dumped me, much to the relief of my parents.

All you can do is just be there for him. If he wants to talk, listen. If he wants to ask advice, answer. If he wants company, be with him. You cannot absorb the hurt for him. I don't think "she's not good enough for you" helps either. That just makes him more sad. Good luck.

Just tell him ONCE, you are there for him. He knows and does not want it repeated. There is really nothing you can do, b/c this is something he has to go through on his own. Its all part of growing up.

It's not fun to watch, but give him time, he'll get over it.
