The kind of degree depends on what you want to do. If you are interested in mostly bedside nursing care-either LVN or RN. If you want to work in administration you would want to go for a Bachelors or Masters degree in science as well as the RN degree. There is also Nurse Practitioner training available to allow nurses to see patients in a MD office and to diagnose and prescribe treatments. The type of degree you get depends on what you want to do. I had a RN with an Associates in Science degree. It was all I needed as I preferred bedside nursing and taking care of patients rather than supervising others doing the care. If your interest is so you can get rich or marry a MD-don't bother. You can live on the salary paid in nursing but you won't be rich in a financial way. Caring for others can enrich your soul. As for marrying a MD-Once you work with them you won't want to. Most are good people wanting to help people so they are never at home. The others you would want to avoid except as necessary to do your job.

I amy be wrong, but i think a friend of mine got her R.N. and than got more schooling to get her L.P.N. i think LPNs make more money. she works with babies. if you like children that might be the way to go or if you like older people you could be a nurse in a nursing home or there is the nurse who works in the fast pace world of the Emergency room. whatever way you go, i wish you well.

According to a nurse-friend, Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) is the way to go. It is a Masters-level program. They make great money, hospitals are in demand, and heck, your patient is asleep! (all kidding aside) Good Luck to you.
