I'm not talking about welfare... I hate those people. I am just talking about minimum wage for people who are willing to work hard to do what it takes to be a responsible citizen. I make WAY more than minimum wage however it still upsets me. A person could never support a family on minimum wage today even if both parents worked full time... they would almost be better off on welfare and food stamps which makes me even more upset. I truly don't understand why this is... what is the benefit to politicians since increasing minimum wage would actually make people pay more taxes (because they make more). Wouldn't it be in their best interests also?

If raising the minimum wage hurts employers, employees in the end, why can't the same be said for our governtment employees. Not even the politicians but the state and government employees. The cost of beurcracy goes higher and higher, and the benefit of that goes lower and lower

Congressional pay raises do not take effect until after the election. If you are against them getting a pay raise, don't vote for them to return to office. If they lose, who ever wins will benefit from the pay raise.

As for minimum wage, how many people actually try to support a family on that? A very large majority of minimum wage workers are: 1) teenagers, 2) a supplemental income (second job or someone with a spouse that makes enough to live on), or 3) receives a lot of tips.

There are always other jobs available that pays more than minimum wage. Wal-Mart pays more than minimum wage. If someone is STUPID enough to try to support a family while making such a low salary, and doesn't try to improve their situation, they don't deserve to have a family to support.

Most states have a minimum wage well above the federal minimum. There is no need for a federal minimum anyway, that is a state responsibility. Especially with the disparity of cost of living from state to state.

Besides the government should not be regulating what private enterprise pays their employees. That is not a function of government.

politicians get raises for working hard and dedication , someone working a minimum wage job probably has done neither . Minimum wage jobs are desighned for high school students and part time , they are definately not a way for a responsible adult to support a family . any adult that has been working minimum wage for 1 year without a promotion or raise is considered worthless . you can go to mcdonalds and as long as you show up to work you will get a raise and get promoted with very little effort

They are thinking of the hardship it would put on business(yeah right) , if they had to pay decent living wages, they couldn't afford to stay in business. Every time it comes up for a vote it is killed. they want the poor to stay down. I am one of the working poor and sometimes it comes down to food or gas for the car to get to work. Insurance is never an option even though it is the law. Yes I am uninsured by necessity not by choice..

if the minimum wage goes up the price of all goods goes up so that the employer can afford to pay his employees. therefore a minimum wage increase does not benefit the worker receiving it at all.

first of all, it's spelled politicians, but other than that...............
because SOME (not all) politicians are either greedy, self-centered, uncaring about their people, or all three.
i never want to be a politician
and when u say "i hate those people" do you mean you hate people who are on welfare? because that's awful. it's not always their fault.
