One option is to convert MP3s to AC3 format, but the problems is the conversion increases the file size to 2-3times. Also is there any other way or alternative.
Usually new DVD Player (some atleast) do play MP3 on DVD directly but I want to make use of my existing DVD Player and still be able to play MP3s.
Suggestions welcome.

If your DVD player can not play MP3, then your only choice is to convert to AC3 format. Unlike a computer, you can not download new programs or codec to make an old DVD player play new technology. If you want to use MP3, you will need to invest in a player that can do them.
